The Complete OnPay Integration Guide

OnPay keeps payroll simple for small and midsize employers. Benefits should not be the thing that undoes that. When coverage changes live in payroll but have to be retyped into every carrier portal, the errors that slip through, a wrong tier here, a missed termination there, are the ones that turn into billing disputes and coverage gaps.

Connecting OnPay to Benefit Cloud automates that handoff. Your employee and payroll data moves straight to your benefits ecosystem, carrier feeds stay accurate, and your team gets time back every pay cycle.

OnPay uses a straightforward API token model. There is no OAuth setup, just one token generated from your settings. Here is how it works.

Step 1: Open the OnPay API Settings

OnPay lets you create API tokens directly from your settings. Sign in as an admin and open the API section.

  1. Navigate to Settings, then API.

  2. Select New API Token.

Step 2: Create Your API Token

Generate a token for the Benefit Cloud connection. Copy it immediately, because OnPay displays it only once. If you leave the page without copying it, you will need to create a new one.

Step 3: Submit Your Credentials to Benefit Cloud

Submit the token through the secure Benefit Cloud portal, where it is encrypted on submission. The token inherits the permissions of the account that created it, so Benefit Cloud reads only the records that account can see. We connect through the API only and never touch your OnPay portal or admin settings.

What Happens Next

Benefit Cloud tests the connection to your OnPay account, maps your data to your feed requirements, and confirms once everything is live. Your data then syncs automatically on the agreed schedule.
